They’re all gonna laugh at you!

I recently joined a gym and let me tell you the workout was intense and I was totally out of my comfort zone. So, why am I telling you this? Because I want you to know that I know how you feel when I tell you that you need to do videos and you say “I don’t feel comfortable doing videos.”

When I walked in that gym I felt like everyone was staring at me and judging me. I can’t even walk to the elevator without getting winded what the heck am I doing at a gym and a cross fit gym at that. There was a girl lifting weights over her shoulders and I couldn’t even climb on the bike. All I could hear in my head was the movie Carrie and the mom saying “They’re all gonna laugh at you!”

But you know what? No one was looking at me and no one was laughing at me. The only one being harsh and judgmental to me, was me. I didn’t run as fast as the other girls in my group and I was breathing a little harder on the bike than the girl next to me but in the end, they were all as sweaty and tired as I was.

So the next time you say you don’t feel comfortable doing a video, ask yourself why? Is it because you think people are going to judge how you look or sound? You may stumble on some words or have a hair out of place, but I guarantee that no one is going to laugh at you, except maybe your kids but they don’t count.

So step out of your comfort zone and take a chance. Is it going to be perfect? No. But just like going to the gym, I’m going to get better and pretty soon I won’t struggle to climb onto that exercise bike and I may never be the fastest runner but it will get easier. And if you keep on doing videos, I promise those will get easier too.

The biggest hurdle to overcome is yourself. I knew that I would feel awkward going to the gym but I also knew that I wasn’t going to lose weight staying in my comfort zone. If growing your business is your top priority, then you need to leave your comfort zone. The great thing about video is if you don’t like how you looked you can film it again. Blouse made you look like a clown? You were squinting when you spoke? Film it again and again and again. It will get easier and no one is laughing at you.
